Tim Akihara Williams' Life and Travels

Q. Where were you Born, and where did you grow up?

I was Born in the city of Exeter, the capital of Devon, South west England.
I have a English Father, a Japanese Mother and a sister who is three years older than me.

At the age of 4 the family moved to Japan, as my parents became missionaries. we moved all around Japan.

at the age of 18, I came back to Britain and lived in Edinburgh for three years, then moved to London, where I am now.

Q. When did you first see a Magic Trick?

I Believe it was at Kindergarten in Japan, where a Magician ripped some newspaper, put it into a bowl, pored Soy Sauce onto it, and waved his wand over the bowl. next thing we know, the newspaper had changed to noodles. I remember going home and trying it my self with no success.

Q. When did you learn your first trick?

I believe it was when I was 9 years old. I went to a summer camp, where there was a Magician as a special guest. I was so impressed with his magic tricks, that I walked up to him and begged him to teach me a trick. I must of asked constantly, he finally gave up and taught me a classical rope trick call "Rope through Neck" Which I performed to my friends and family many a time.(I later found out that this trick is not to be taught to juniors as it is a dangerous trick)

I also received many Tricks for Christmas and Birthdays. and had many occasions to meet magicians while young.

Q. When did it becoming a Magician become your dream?

Actually, it has never been my dream, when I was young I wanted to become a Doctor, and when I became a Christian at the age of 18, a desire to become a missionary aroused. While training to become a missionary, I had the opportunity to meet a Gospel Magician, and thought "What a good idea!"
and that is when I started performing.

Q. What do you want to accomplish through Sleight of Hand Magic?

I've never rally thought about this deeply, but guess the basic aim is to let everybody have a good time. I often see magicians on TV who seem to try and scare people. I have also seen people freak out during my show. but this is not my aim, my aim is that we all have a good time, with laughter and comedy.
